Day 10: 2017 National Rally - Queensland
Day 10 : Friday 12th May, Allora and Killarney
Yes the actual house where P.L.Travers,
the author of Mary Poppins spent some of her early life. The building was
originally a Bank and her father was the third banker. The house still has its
Vault which is quite substantial. The house is quite amazing and our guides
where dressed in period costume.
Due to our number the group
had split into two and the second part of our visit was to a private car collection - which is comprised of a variety of American cars, mainly Cadilac’s (1940's, 50's and 60's cars).
The purpose built building
is currently at stage 1 with about 20 cars displayed, stage 2 is nearly ready
to receive the next batch of cars and stage 3 (yet to be built) will include a dedicated workshop area.
From here we
drove about 70Km to Kilarney for an excellent lunch of roast beef. The rest of the group drove to view St Mary’s falls but we and the McKinnons had some
preparations to make for this evenings presentation so missed them and returned
to Warwick.
The sun was out today and the morning was a little warmer than previously. Today we drove out to
the village of Allora (a short 26km from Warwick) to visit Mary Poppins House and a local car collection.
